West Cornwall Dog Services was created as I understand from experience the balancing act it often is for a dog owner leading a busy life! I am committed to ensuring that your beloved family pet is loved and cared for whilst you are at work, on holiday, or if you simply need to be out for the day.

Thank you so much!

A Happy Dog Owner

The services I provide are very much tailored to each individual dog, their needs and yours. This is something that I discuss with each new ‘client’ to ensure I get it just right for you and your pet. Each day can be very different in my working day; the routine for the day depends very much on what dogs I have, and what their needs are whilst you are at work or away.

I can only promise that I will truly love and care for your dog whilst they are with me and that they will have lots of stimulation and fun through walks and play, and of course if they are with me for the day or evening then opportunities for plenty of rest and relaxation in our family home too!

About

me, my business, my faimly, my life…

Me
My name is Carmen and I am based near the village of Zennor in West Cornwall. I started up West Cornwall Dog Services following a number of years as a Teacher.

My Business
I wanted a change of pace to my life and to be able to spend more time with my family. It seemed only natural for me to develop my other passion which is my love for dogs, and thus West Cornwall Dog Services was created!

We have a large family home with a big enclosed garden at the rear and we are fortunate to be surrounded by field and coastal walks.

My Faimily & Dog
I live with my husband, our eight year old son and of course our gorgeous dog who is a very sociable 3 year old Pointer cross Viszla!

My Life
I grew up in West Cornwall and I use my knowledge of different local environments such as the woods, different moor walks, inland hill and valley walks, alongside the many beach and coastal walks to ensure that the dogs in my care have plenty of variety in their walks with me.

My Priorities
My priority is your dog’s happiness and safety at all times, whilst ensuring they can explore and have fun, and be totally happy in both my company and the company of any other dogs I may team them up with.

All of us in our home absolutely love dogs; both my husband and I have always owned and cared for dogs.

My Life with Dogs
As well as owning dogs, we have in the past fostered many greyhounds, providing them with a safe and secure home after a world of racing and kennels. We have supported many greyhounds beginning to learn how to adjust socially to people, other dogs and new environments.

We did this through lots of informal training, and the experiences we gave them helped many dogs adjust and go on to live in a home environment.

Important Information

Vaccinations Required
To ensure that the best care can be provided for all dogs I have in my care, it is important that all dogs are vaccinated, ideally this should also include Kennel Cough and male dogs must be castrated.

Please do discuss this with me if you have any questions about it.

Aggressive Dogs Not Accepted
Due to the home and family environment that I provide I am unable to take dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs or children.
My Insurance
I am fully insured with Protectivity Insurance who specialise in Pet business insurance.

Services Offerred

Dog Walking
I am able to come to your home and take your dog out for at least a 1 hour walk. I will ensure that I get to know your dog and his or hers personality and traits. Walking may be locally at first with familiar walks before introducing other dogs and new environments.

Dogs usually love interacting with other dogs, be it on a lead walking together or being given opportunities to run free and play. I am keen for dogs to have time to socialise and have fun together, and of course my aim is for them to be happy, healthy and safe at all times, and of course looking forward to their time with me again!

You can choose if your dog is walked on or off the lead, by itself, or with other dogs, and whether they can be given treats.

Dog Day / Evening Care
I really wanted to provide this service for both locals and visitors to Cornwall. It may be that you would like your dog to have some company whilst you are at work, or you may be visiting Cornwall with your beloved pet but there are some places you would like to visit that are just not dog friendly.

I can offer a stimulating environment with plenty of walks, play and rest within our family home. This service is very much tailored to individual needs and I would ensure that I only have a few dogs staying for the day or evening at any one time and that they all get on well together. I would only ever leave dogs alone with permission from you and for no longer than a few hours if that, and this would only be if I felt confident doing this. Again, this is something that I would discuss with you, and I would always take into account your dogs, and any other dogs’ needs and temperaments when they are together. It may just be that I need to do the school run, however I can take the dogs with me too!

For day and evening care, it is ideal if you can drop off and pick up your dog. However, times and pick-ups need to be discussed to suit both you, I, and the dogs – there may be an additional cost if you need me to pick-up or drop-off for dog care, again this is dependent on individual circumstances.

Pet to Vet Service
I appreciate that there are times for a variety of reasons that it can be difficult getting your pet to the vet for either routine or an unexpected run of appointments.

I am able to offer you support with this, either taking you and your pet together to the vet, or I am able to take them myself.

Prices for this service will be according to the individual service that I will provide for you.

Dog Holidays
I know how difficult it can be to always have your beloved dog with you if you are planning a holiday, or need to go away for a different reason. You may be coming to Cornwall for a holiday but would like to visit another area for a few days, but are not able to take your dog. Then the answer could be for your dog to have a few nights or a longer holiday in our family home!

We would welcome your dog into our family home and they would be treated as we treat our own dog, with plenty of love, care and opportunities for play, stimulation and rest! They can settle into our home routines, feel content, and feel like they really are in a ‘home from home’ as soon as they arrive!

We have a fully secure large back garden with plenty of places to play or rest, our garden has space and also trees to provide shade for those hot sunny days! There is lots of space both inside and outside of our home and your dog will have plenty of walks with us as a family, and be given lots of love too! They will have lots of company, rarely being left alone, and only then with your permission.

I will aim to follow your routines for meal times, walking, sleeping and so on, and we will give them as much as the run of the house as you allow them in your own home!

If you would like daily updates of how your pet is getting on then we can arrange this too.

Testimonials

Carmen put my mind at rest with her understanding of older dogs needs.  Dum Dum goes on a variety of walks, and has plenty of rest and affection in her family home.  Lovely people!

Jayne, owner of Dum Dum the Boxer

Lincoln gave Carmen the seal of approval by leaping next to her the first time we met her!  His judgement has proved sound; she stretches his legs on wonderful walks and welcomed him into her warm (in both senses of the word!) home. Utterly recommended.

Mel, owner of Lincoln the Whippet

Always lovely for Buzz to walk with other dogs, he is always happy and I know he enjoys the company.

Joe, owner of Buzz the Collie

“Carmen is professional, well organised and kind. Her farm house home is ideal for visiting dogs.  Her own dog is a jolly, friendly, big hound who is most welcoming to visitors human or canine!

Geordie who is generally a very laid back calm dog got himself in a state of enthusiastic high excitement each time we turned down Carmen’s driveway.  Anyone who knows Cairn Terriers will know they make their feelings quite clear.  If he didn’t like the set up, he’d have turned his back and attempted to leave pronto. (It has happened before!)  Not so at Carmen’s.
Geordie just loved his time with her.  He had freedom to roam in her big garden full of interesting snuffles.  He appeared to be welcome to take off upstairs to sleep in peace, and no doubt enjoyed his couple of overnights in the Aga warmed  kitchen.  I know he got great walks in the fields all around because sometimes we happened to be heading along the coast when, by chance, we saw Geordie in the distance off on one of his twice daily jaunts with Carmen.
In our opinion, if you are in need of a home from home for your dog in the St Ives area, Carmen is the answer.  We are happy to recommend West Cornwall Dog Services unreservedly.”

Lillias & Denyse, owners of Geordie the Cairn Terrier.
(Holidaying Visitors).
